Reolink Keen Ranger PT camera trap offers a new way to remotely monitor wildlife, since it can act as a passive photographic trapping camera, but also allows us to connect remotely to see live what is happening in its detection field.
Apart from storing images and videos internally in 2K quality on a microSD card, this camera also allows you to send them with a SIM card via 4G to an external device. In neither case the cards are included and we must bear in mind that in order to send files and connect through the mobile application you will have to hire a data rate to the SIM card that we put to the camera.
An interesting new feature of Reolink Keen Ranger PT is that it contains a rotor motor that allows you to rotate the camera 360° horizontally and also move it vertically. This possibility, combined with an angular field of view of 95°, allows us to track the surroundings to be able to better focus on the space that interests us most at all times. All these controls are directed remotely from the REOLINK app for smartphones and tablets, which is free to download.
In addition, the motion sensor that incorporates and activates the camera to record, also allows you to send alerts to the mobile application when it detects movement, which allows us to connect immediately and see in real time that it moves before the camera.
Another interesting component of this equipment is that door incorporated a solar panel that feeds a 6000 mAh battery, which allows us to leave it installed longer without having to go often to change the batteries. The camera body is waterproof and resistant to water and snow.
A utility that is especially interesting of this camera is the possibility of placing it near the live capture traps and thus be able to check remotely and at the moment if captures have been achieved.
It is especially recommended to use it to monitor the PIG BRIG trap to capture wild boars. If we place the REOLINK camera close and with a position that allows us to see the trap and its surroundings well, we can connect remotely and check its status and the behavior of the wild boars to determine when it is the right time for its activation.
The same function could be applied with other types of traps such as Sherman or Heslinga for micromammals.
